It was a brisk 38 degrees, but the sun was out. A little, then it started to sprinkle. These items are from the Civil War camp that has been pounded for 50 years. It was only of my best days there yet. First picture is a complete musket worm, it should clean up nice, fourth picture is left to right, three percussion caps, a hard to get find from here because of the mineralized soil, 9 pieces of camp lead, porcelain button and an eagle button, the broken glass bottle has a piece of lead melted to it! Sixth picture is a solid thick iron plate, apparently broken. Anybody have a clue on this? Last picture is the typical iron ration can and nail trash from the site. There are thousands of these pieces on the site, many are found under the coil the same sweep as a good item. It is a tough place to dig.

Congratulations on the relic hunt! :occasion14:

Congrats on getting out in the weather.

Very nice hunt.

percussion caps would be tough for sure, awesome job

great post sweet finds

Thank you all. I LOVE minie balls, and we only find drops in the camp. I found one pulled one, nothing fired. The percussion caps are a special treat. I think I may have dug 10-12 in my entire life. They are hard to get. Where I was digging was next to a previously dug out hut. The guys back then with the BFO machines and early VLF machines just couldn't punch through the red dirt. All this stuff and the items from last week's posts were discards that were OUTSIDE the hut. Just laying there for 150 years, waiting.

Great hunt! Lead beats off the rain every time.

Fortunately, it only sprinkled a bit.

Thank you. Not a ton of stuff, but I'll take it. The worm for the musket is coming along ok. I soaked it for 36 or so by now in Iron Out. Iron is coming off. Brushed it a little and put it in a new batch of Iron Out. Will check it again late tonight or Sunday. Going back to the site to dig a hut out tomorrow with another Tnetter. Today it's a colonial store/Rev War area. Assuming I don't get rained out.

I bet smokey could outfit a nice museum by now

Jeff, I thought that I was a museum. Not the stuff. Or maybe just an antique.

well, you are a treasure for sure

Thank you. I assume you want to come dig here again, then?

LOL, well I didn't mean it that way!
I did love that hunt however and will always appreciate your generosity

I know, just jerking your chain. It's not we live down the street from each other. That site is now experiencing what I call "diminished returns". We return there and get diminished results every time we go.
