Yesterdays state of emergency

The Governor declared a state wide state of emergency for Mass. yesterday. Us in the valley stayed just warm enough to avoid the disaster. 350,000 people without electricity yesterday, most are still out today and the temps dropped into the teens last night. Some towns in the hills you couldn't get in or out because of fallen trees blocking the roads.

I never thought I would get pictures like this from way down here, the first picture is for reference, the rest are at full zoom and you can see why things were such a mess.

Oh man! Great pics Kim! I can only imagine an ice storm of that magnitude. Glad you missed it. All we can do is pray that it doesn't cause any deaths or injuries.

What a storm, glad you missed the worst.
I worked for a year cleaning bent & broken timber off my boss's place a few years ago, but i got paid, plus $300.00
in free firewood.

Kim, glad it stayed a tad better in the valley, also glad you showed the first photo without zoom, no doubt that camera is good on taking zoomed in photos. That ice is beautiful but oh so destructive. Great shots.

I remember back in 1998, there was an horrendous one in NY state near Lake Champlain, that then got even worst towards Mt Washington area in NH. We went up for a visit in early June and was amazed that some of the back roads were still paritally blocked, and that a lot of the summer home properties were not cleared of the down trees at all, and it looked like a war zone. That storm was funky, it was one of those where if you were higher in elevation, it was mostly snow, if you were lower it was rain, and of course those in that middle zone got slammed.

Good luck to you and I hope you fare well through this. Here's a hot cup of joe for you :coffee2:

The clean up will take quite a while, New salem is shut down completely, Ashfield is working hard and has a road or two opened up.

Don, I was even amazed at how close I got. I remember that storm. We were fortunate enough (again) to be tied into the traffic lights and only lost power for 6 hours, when the fols a 1/4 of a mile away were without for 6 days. Thanks for the link I saved it.

Thanks for the coffee!

Bradgny, is your son staying in one of the shelters? I hope they let him home soon! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Mojja, I hope you get power back soon! I heard the was only one fatality from this and it was asphiciation (even spell check can't spell that one :D )from a generator. Please be careful!

BRRR! Ya'll stay warm. I remember having a few ice storms over the years here in Bama. Haven't had to deal with it in quite a while though. Very pretty for the first day (provided you didn't lose power) but ready for it to go soon there after. :P

Take care! Nana

We had a pretty bad ice storm here 1 year ago this week...it caused a lot of trouble here too. I have an emergency stock now. Here are some pics of ours last year. Stay safe, Charlie

We went 5 days with no phone and 8 days before power came back on. We huddled around the fireplace and even cooked soup over the fire. We still had natural gas so we had hot water, but our gas range wouldn't work because it locks everything up when the electricity goes off! Monty

Mojax, Glad you got your power back!

Monty 8 days? That's quite the long time without electricity. Must have lost a freezer full of food.
