Yet another find from the other day...Rainbow Pyrite

Found this sand or limestone rock with quite a bit of Calcite and various pyrite patches. There are areas of what looks like Rainbow Pyrite as well as some interesting pyrite crystals (very small). Does Rainbow Pyrite look right? I had to do a search to know to call it that..Thx

Yeah nevermind...there aren't any indicators of the presence of copper, it's regular tarnished pyrite like EU said, octahedral habit.

Yes I am sure it is..I pulled the name from a google image..now I see its from a healing/metaphysical site..in a rush for a name

hearing it called "tarnished" makes me want to toss in the rock pile out back..Ill stick with Chalcopyrite...lol..though it may end up there anyway.

While it is nice to get an ID, It is a very nice rock anyway!

nah don't do that - octahedral pyrite isn't rare, but it's not as common as cubic. I think it's pretty cool

It's jibberish for oxidized. Tarnished per se isn't bad. A sure way to test chalcopyrite vs pyrite is to see if a knife scratches it.
