I found this martini shaker near the base of a tree. About a foot down. When I opened it I found two envelopes, wet from the Texas storms last night. I dried them out, I read them. The curiosity just ate me up lol. It sounds like two young kids madly in love And wrote each other a love letter and buried it to read at a layer date in time. I'm heading back later today to rebury them. Thanks for looking HH

Update: 9/18/2014

Got an update on the letters I reburied last summer.

Pretty cool update and I was just thinking of this find a couple days ago.

Thanks for looking again

That's really neat. We're they dated? You should see if you can water proof it better for them

Scouts out!

No dates :( But there is a price tag on the bottom for $14.99 at world market. I'm guessing they have been there for a while. The ground did not look disturbed, maybe a few months?

Neat find--I couldn't make out some of the writing in your pics...can you post a transcript of the letters or at least make a scan of them? Certainly one of the most unique finds I've seen posted here! If the letters are forgotten about, can you imagine a detectorist finding these letters 100 or 200 years from now?

I hope that their dreams and desires came true! Hopefully they are in a permanent relationship and totally happy! To quote Phil Robertson. "HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY".

If you haven't reburied it yet ,you might want to wrap it in somekind of plastic or something so more water doesn't make its way back in.

Yes. Wrap it real good so no further damage and add your own little note stating that a friendly metal deterorist found it and helped with the water issue.

Here are some HD pics of the letters. I almost feel guilty posting them lol kinda like when the teacher caught you passing a note then reading it to the class. You should be able to click on the page for full size image

Thanks for the comments!

On a positive note, maybe if you come back in 20 years, you might find a copy of their divorce decree.

Very nice story and unique find indeed! Thanks for sharing it. Putting the letters back from whence they came, better waterproofed, is a very kind thing to do!

What sort of location was it discovered in? Park?

I would totally seal it up and return it. But have to say I would probably leave a note of my own to let the next person that finds it know its complete history. And maybe they will also put it back.

Very cool ! How sweet !!! This is one of those unique finds that is charming and heartwarming , I agree with the idea of repacking
everything in a waterproof container , and including a dated note about your discovery as well .

I would leave a new note, wishing them, and anyone else who finds it, the best of luck. I might even leave an address or something, just to see if anyone else ever finds it.

This is actually a really neat find. Congrats and HH!

Thanks guys! I triple wrapped in ziplock freezer bags. I left a note saying I found them on today's date, my email, best wishes and a .925 Faith ring I found the other day.
