Shell or Stone? Where is it from? What conditions was it found in? Creek, river, field?

It looks like a natural stone to me. I see no pecks marks, grinding, or anything that would lead me to think it was made by man.

Its stone, very smooth, found in southwest Fl. about 25 yds from the beach just inland on a long spit of barrier island.

That explains the polish. Years and years of being pounded by the surf will do that to stone. It's natural and not an artifact.

It looks like a natural stone to me except for what looks like recent scratch marks that are awfully evenly spaced.
Did someone use a wire brush on this?

That type of solidified sediment usually does not have fossils in it here
