Intermittently switched the 5" x 8" DD coil with the 4.5" Sniper coil on both the AT Pro and AT Gold. Both were set at maximum sensitivity. The AT Gold was ground balanced to 33 and the AT PRo to 85. To maintain a high level of reliability, the air tests tests were done outside, away from the house. I removed my watch, rings and change from my pockets. Distance was set at a strong repeatable signal strength with a moderate swing speed. I also did a test run using my favorite coil, the 9" x 12" Concentric coil.

Although in most cases, the larger coil got more depth then the sniper coil, the difference was minimal with the tiny gold flake. The sniper coil should work fine for tiny match sized gold nuggets. The sniper coil is still a preferred coil to use in playgrounds, especially close to metal equipment. It is also good for hunting in extremely trashy areas, along fences and along re-bar.

great info !! My brother and I have been discussing this

Thanks for the info. Very well done, you get an A+.:laughing7:

How does the 8.5 x 11 DD compare with the 9 x 12 concentric? Would it be worth having both for the ATpro?

I have always preferred the concentric coils over over a DD. They give more accurate ID readings, don't read a lot of targets as bottle caps, get comparatively the same same depth, although DD coils are supposed to cut a bit deeper higher mineralized soil. Concentric coils also pinpoint easier. My soil is low mineral content, so a DD is actually disadvantaged to me compared to a concentric coil.

Thanks. Wish you would post what the 9 x 12 concentric does on the AT Gold in All Metal mode.

And don't forget my GTI-2500 coil...

You know.......that's a petty good idea. I think I might take it one step further and compare the depth with the 9 x 12 against the 8.5 x 11 DD coil also.

I haven't fired up that 2500 of mine this year yet. It's hanging on my bookcase end with that 12.5 coil already in place,

I've been wanting to add the concentric coil to my pro since I have both DD's and I think you made up my mind. It will work good in the fields I hunt I'll just put the 5x8 back on when I hit a trashy old home site because it is a great coil for that.
