A very curious thing: I went to a very small park in DC where I had found a couple of old buttons before, only this time I went into the adjacent woods. On a hillside by a big tree I found 13 buttons in about a 5x5' area.
Eleven of them are, I think, Marine Corps buttons, and they look old. Most are the larger size and have two backstamps: "EXTRA QUALITY AM B CO" and "JR GAUNT & SON LTD ROUSES POINT NY". The designs are slightly different depending on the maker. The smaller buttons are just backstamped EXTRA QUALITY.
I also found two very small Great Seal buttons, which makes me wonder if the others are as old as they look.
Any info you guys might provide would be very much appreciated.
The way they are all so similar and close together makes me think they were purposely thrown away, but who knows? It sure was fun digging them up! Thanks for looking! Happy hunting
