Got in a short hunt this afternoon with the DEUS.
Went to an area I had previously hit with the XLT several times.
Ended up getting this 1901 IHP and a possible Lead Seal. ???
The IHP was toasted and super crusty, so I decided to do a little tooth-picking experimental cleaning.
I rubbed the flat edge for a long time and finally revealed some detail, and then did a short mineral oil soak.
I think it turned out ok, just nicked the patina off of one tiny spot on the reverse.
Thanks for looking
Please advise. :dontknow:

Thanks Cjon, I love finding indians. It was super crusty, and I found an 1877 seated dime here once, so I was hoping for an older date.
I thought the lead item was a button or bullet at first. Not sure what it is now.
On the back flattened area there is an indention, almost like someone was making a hole, the brown is a little dirt still inside the indention.
I thought the front had a design, but after picking some dirt away I couldn't make anything out. There is one flattened half crescent spot on the front.
Just thought maybe a seal, and was hoping others might have an idea as to what it may be.
Thanks again.

Nice digs there BP. hope to see deeper stuff when your new toy gets in

IHs are always a nice find

The lead piece looks more like a fired pistol round ball to me, and the round part on the back being the sprue where it was cut from the mold.

Nice IHC you got there. Congrats on the lead too. Best of luck to you!

Thanks TBD. Hoping the new coil goes deep enough to find some of these guys.

Thanks for responding worm slicer. That thought did cross my mind. Would be the second white oxidized bullet from this site.
I just wanted to see what others thought. Bullet, seal, random lead, etc.
Thanks again.

Thanks 46 Wheat....
Thanks Carolina Tom....

Nice Indian save, love those pennies!

Nice looking Indian.

I agree on the fired round ball. That's a nice Indian. Lots of detail on it.

Nice job on the IH..
And the lead is a slug from a bullet. .Nice hunt BP..
Good luck with that new coil, it will gain a few more inches..

Thanks for the round-ball suggestion OD, and thanks for the comps on the indian. You should have seen it when it came out of the ground.

Thanks for the comps on the IHP, and thanks for the slug suggestion.
Looks like I will have to go with the majority on the bullet theory.
Im excited about the new coil. I get to go back to all those old sites and re-sweep.
The 9" is great, but a little more depth and ground coverage will be helpful in some areas.

Nice couple of finds. Love those Indians.

HEY BONE I LIKE THE NEW CHINESE ROLLER COASTER BUT SEE YOU GOT A NICE INJUN AND A FLAT PEICE OF LEAD.

Congrats on the IHP, I love digging those. :occasion14:

Congrats on the IH and lead!! I was also curious what others thought of the lead. I'm always finding pieces of lead some like yours others melted and in all different shapes, always guessing when it comes to lead.

Well I'll be! Yep, look identical. Oh, an i had already put mine in olive oil, good finds man!
