Today I was bored and decided to do some nickel searching. I got a box ($100 worth) today.

Sadly, I didn't get any silver, but did pull out a nice selection of 1930s through 1950s nickels.

I also pulled out this 1927 Buffalo Nickel.

WTG Brian! I guess 80 years of circulation was enough for the ol' Indian.

Yeah, I came to rescue him from his 80 years of running wild!

Good find, way to start off your weekend !

great find! What do you look for when you search through rolls of nickels? Just indians and maybe a V nickel? Is it just war nickels that are made of silver or have silver in them? Thanks.

I look for anything 1959 and older. Yes, war nickels are the only nickels with any silver content.

Nice find.

I am buffaloless for 2007 still, though I am due for one in any roll now if my averages from 2006 still hold.

I got a $100 box of nickels today too ;D

Has anyone else ever had a box of nickels this good? ???

One roll had 8 silver war nickles and numerous 40's -50's :D

Wow you guys are doing great with those nickels, makes me want to go check some out. Keep up the great work.
Best Regards, Ray

WOW! That's probably the best box of nickels I've ever heard of!! Keep it up!

WTG....I am going to have to try that myself. I can't seem to find them with my detector...lol. Good job.

I have partially gone through my first box of nickels and was surprised to find a couple of proofs ('05 bisons) already.

Those of you who routinely CRH nickels, how often do you find these proofs ?

Thanks

You already found 2 'S' mint proofs? I've only found one proof and I think it was like a 1989. I think nickel proofs are pretty rare.

I have yet to find a proof nickel. I would think they are rare to find in nickel rolls. :-\

Finished that box last night, and those were the only proofs located. Their appearance made them stand out, and when I looked at the mint mark; sure enough they each had that illusive "S".

Consider it "nickel" beginner's luck I guess. Well, beginner in the sense it's been over thirty years since I last nickel CRHed.

Thanks for the feedback.

No proofs this time, but my second box of nickels produced 18 pre-'60 (38p, 40p, 41pd, 43p, 46p, 54dx3, 54s, 55dx2, 56d, 57dx2, 58dx2 & 59dx4), 14 "nixon friscos" (68sx2, 69sx4 & 70sx8) and and a canadian nickel ('89) I still needed.

Let the hunt continue..........
