I went out this afternoon to a grove that I haven't hunted before, I was wearing my normal sweater but it wasn't enough protection form the cold winds!!! I didn't get any deep signals in the grove so I went into the woods right behind it to hunt. I seen that someone else has beat me to the spot because I seen 15+ plugs that WERE NOT COVERED!!!! The plugs were up turned with garbage sitting either on the plug or right next to it - I mean really, HOW FRICKEN HARD IS IT TO KICK THE DIRT BACK INTO THE HOLE!!!! Whoever is doing this is going to ruin it for all of us real quick!!! I was glad that I was able to squeek 3 easy keepers out that this person missed. :icon_pirat:

This kind of nonsense is becoming more and more prevalent everywhere. Personally if I ever see someone not filling in their holes......I'm gonna give them some "what for" they wont soon forget!! Just drives me crazy, go through the trouble of finding the target, digging the plug, checking the target, just to through it on the ground and not fill in the hole....Arghhhhhh...... Ohhhh yeah.....Congrats on the three keepers that the bonehead missed!!

Ten-four I know there's a detecting code and filling your holes is right at the top. Nobody whats to see them holes no matter where they are, in a field or way in the woods. Someone could walk through that mine field and brake an ankle!!!! :violent1:

I hope you scanned those holes before covering them. If they were too lazy to cover 'em, they probably
were too lazy/or stupid to rescan them.
That's a sweet looking Merc TF!

Great looking Merc, Kermit!!!

I ran into that in the woods in '08. A hole, a pile of dirt, and a rusty can end ring lying on top of it. One right after another. :angry5:

Careful is the word. . . stomp down that dirt.

We have THE best park system sites in the
country to hunt. . . we can't loose these sites
over a few that are careless in their actions!

Congrats on the silver!
I saw the same thing down here at a grove in SE Cook last fall... There would be a pull tab right on top of the dirt pile. My theory is that this someone who also Mushroom hunts in their spare time. Yeah if you are reading this and you are the one, you are a Mushroom hunter in my book. Maybe this metal detecting Mushroom hunter does not read Illinois forum, just as well, as we don't want our forum defiled.

Yep, we gotta be there when they're there, then it stops Kermit. A little tutoring or a little disincentivizing, whichever it takes. Got the experience to tutor, got the knife-edged shovel to lessen the incentive for the looters.

BTW, nice hunt!

Very nice Merc looks great! :icon_thumright:. It's a shame that someone is messing up and leaving holes open.
The more I dig and enjoy this hobby makes me want to make sure I do it right. I wish whoever is making a mess would understand what the consequences of their actions are. We won't have the privileges to metal detect anywhere.

You are really cleaning up this year.... I was at a place off lagrange road and there were open holes - some huge.. when I scaned over the holes there was a Deep Iron signal and dirt scattered 3 feet away........
