Help to identify this flag. I dug it in Virginia last weekend. I know the only time the Flag had 34 stars was from 1861-1863 as West Virginia was inducted then. THANKS Charlies flag.webp

My guess would be a pin but without seeing the other side it's hard to say

It looks like a civil war era patriotic pin. I have seen them dug in early war US camps. Often they where worn by soldiers and civilians alike. You can find example in many relic books.
 
That is super cool. I haven't seen one of those posted before.
 
It's these type of finds that keeps this hobby interesting.
