Good morning all :icon_sunny: This past Saturday my brother & I went to an old Railroad depot site ,that sits at 10,000 Ft in the Colorado rockies. Had a relaxing day, found a few relics, but not much,as this spot ,I'm sure has been pounded,,,, but not that hard !! walking back to the truck to call it a day, all of the sudden my detector SCREAMS in my ear. 2 to 3 inches down out pops this Keen Kutter , Santa fe ,Railroad lock. :headbang: It was made for the At ,Topeka & Santa Fe RR.and was patented Jan,2,1906. Now I know for a fact that the Santa Fe RR never pulled into this station. It never ceases to amaze me what ,& where we find things,How did this lock end up where it did ??????
Anyway it wasn't a local RR lock but I'm Happy !!!!!! HH

I like when that last dig before leaving gets you something for your effort and the lock is a nice prize . Santa Fe RR lock in Colorado :icon_scratch: interesting :icon_thumleft:

Very Nice lock! Ever since i found my civil war lock with a bullet hole from where someone tried to shoot it off i have enjoyed seeing these bad boys. I would go back if you could, good hunting

Most of the relics I have found in old abandoned areas are not where you would suspect them to be. I am surprised how many things I locate right next to where I parked, and how few things are left near old foundations. Great find!

That's a really cool lock.
I've never seen one shaped like that before.

I found one almost identical to that one when I first started detecting. Only problem was mine was obviously knocked off with a sledge hammer and came out in two pieces! Very Nice. Monty

I dug a an old garment iron in some gold tailing's a few years ago in Brekenridge. Must be old camp remains.
Did ya find any nuggets in Breckinridge ??

I have always wondered why a detectorist is always finding something worth keeping on the way back to the car? It has happened to me several times. Maybe it's the God of detectorists that plants things to keep us addicted? If so, I wonder what his name is? Monty
