Got out today to a place that's yielded some good stuff in the past. Was slow going at first but managed 10 buttons, an 1851 large cent, and bowl portion of a spoon. Some of the buttons are pretty big! Couple of the tombacs have a nice design.

One button is a bit different from others I've found before. The lettering on the back is raised. Looks to read: Barber & Gunthorpe Newport S and there is additional lettering on the front. I can see what looks like COLD S, but there's more lettering below that I can't make out, unfortunately. Does anyone recognize this button, or can ID what the lettering is?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Very interesting, what does the front say very curious

Excellent find on the Coldstream Guards button. The other finds are very nice too! That is a good spot you're hunting. Good luck on your return visit!

Fantastic digs!! Love the button.

Nice stuff! That's my kind of TH'ing.

that looks like a good spot, should be more coins there.

Wow. Thanks guys! Didn't have any idea where to start searching. Any idea on age based on the reverse lettering?

Now THAT is a great button! Looks very old.
Congrats,
MM

It is a good coldstream guards button, I have a few early type but not that one!

If it started slow, it sure didn't end that way.

A pretty great button. Bonus still having the shank.
