10 Cent Haircuts!

Well it's been awhile since I've been to a barber. Last year to my delight I found my first two seated dimes. It took me a few years of detecting to find those. I could not for the life of me find a barber dime. As far as I can tell Connecticut coppers are more common than Barber dimes!!! That all changed this weekend. For some reason it always astounds me when I make a good find on a large piece of land that has very few signals... you realize it's quite the needle in the haystack situation. We were detecting some woods by a pond. We weren't finding anything when I got a little bit of a signal. I dug down and the depth was pretty good. It revealed a nice little salamander and some kind of small silver looking item. I thought it might be a 1/2 reale but when I brushed the coating off it I saw one dime! Alright it's either a seated or my coveted barber. Well it was a barber! It's beat up and may have been through a fire but it's mine all mine! It's a 190-? Looking forward to cleaning it up to reveal it's birthdate!

Sunday I hunted a cellar hole complex. I bought a machete to trim back some plant growth as the place has been hammered and we were thinking that we had to take it to the next level... it was hard work but eventually got a couple repeatable signals: Found a buffalo nickel, a key hole cover, and plain tombac or silver cuff button.

Friday I got out for a couple hrs. and detected a city park. Man the amount of litter in these places is mind boggling. After many bottle caps I found a deep flat button with a little bit of gilt left on it which I always appreciate! I also found what I believe is a Victorian era broach but it also might be a car emblem for all I know. Any help on that item would be great. Thanks for reading.

Nice finds, especially your Barber! I have tried that “take it to the next level” approach several time, rakes, machetes, etc, but I have always struck out. I have some amazing old city parks near where I live, but the trash is something I’m going to have to get my head around. Congrats

This is an interesting piece and I think it has some age to it as well.
I'm thinking if you washed the reverse a bit more we could figure out exactly what this is.
Date wise, I'm thinking late-Victorian or early-Edwardian Period.

Thank you! Yeah this city park has so much broken glass in it it's a wonder people even use it. The cellar hole: Although slim pickings I feel very enthused with the results of clearing some bryers. It makes me think bigger like lets get in there with some weed wackers!!!
