Second time going through my maybe pouch from a couple days ago, you know the one that is one grade up from the junk pouch. What I thought on first glance was a lead bail seal I now think could be a Revolutionary Continental Army Button. This is how I pass my time on these rainy days in Virginia. Starting to think about Building A Big Boat, if I could just find some Gopher Wood!

Looks more like a 70 to me and I would lean toward your first guess of some kind of lead bale seal. No iron wires through it, but could be some different way of attachment.
