Officials stated that this Mine Fire was extinguished and is no longer burning, but the video proves otherwise. Welcome to the former town of Laurel Run Pennsylvania. Did you know that a mine fire erased this town? Not many do, but believe it or not this mine fire has been burning over 100 years and you can still find evidence of that today. Come along as we learn about the town, the mine fire and show how the area looks today


on this map Laurel Run is in Luzerne County in the N.E. Corner area.
Centralia is in the S.W. corner in Columbia County

Same thing happened in Centralia. That was a neat old town!

I think the big Difference between Centralia and Laurel Run was
Centralia's homes were technically owned by the Residence from back when the mines sold the homes off. a sense of entitlement set in & Grew. not to mention the Human side of romance.
People Loved their Homes and surroundings they put their Life's Blood in.

if I'm not Mistaken, Laurel Run was a mining Village , The Homes belonged to The Mine owners. so when the owners said get out, you got out. besides living there and traveling to another Mining area, and back had many Downsides. by the 2nd half of the 20th century things had changed.

We still have old coal seam fires burning in some areas west of me. It was even thought that this big Marshall fire we had just about exactly a year ago a burning coal seam may have been one of the causes that ignited all the dry vegetation during some 100mph wind blast that went on that day.
