Hello Friends,

I'm new to this forum, but not to metal detecting. Been hunting for about 20 years now. Since purchasing a Minelab Explorer SE in Jan., my '07 silver/oldies coin counts have skyrocketed. I've already found 150 silver coins this year, plus a whopping 652 wheaties from 16 local parks and 1 middle school. Geez, it's only the end of March. :o

Today was my best 1 day hunt ever. The "silver magnet" (Expl. SE) performed flawlessly today!! Got a new "personal best" from a county park in the Los Angeles area. 12 silver coins today, with one hole containing a merc and a rosie. I just didn't think it could be possible to find that much silver at a park around here in one day. I'm still wondering why so many good finds were still left at this park, being one of the oldest in the city (1911). Could it be all the iron in the ground masking the good targets? I was digging quite a few rusty nails and bolts that sounded like good targets, and rarely had a threshold tone that lasted more than a few seconds. Most of my coins came from an area between and around two large palm trees in the park. I have done so well detecting around these trees at every park I've been to. The better thing is that I've only hunted less than a third of this park. It should produce more. We'll see ;) So far from 5 hunts this week at the park, I've found a total of 36 silver coins.

The pic is from two days of hunting at the park. I found 7 silvers a couple of days ago there. Got the SS ring, SS cross, and gold religious pendant today also.

Two Day totals:

1 '48 Washington
11 Rosies ('46, '48, '50, '51, '52(2), '56, '58(2), '59, '64)
6 Mercs ('20, '40, '42(2), '43(2))
1 '45S War Nickel
27 wheaties
2 Canadian Pennies ('28, '47)

Happy Hunting Everyone,
CAPTN "SE"
Dan

Hello Scots, what I was trying to say was that this is my first post on the TreasureNet forum, but that I've been swinging the detector for the past 20 years now. Sorry for the confusion.

thank you, i guess it really has been a long week!

Great hunting to you.

Welcome to the forum Captn.
Nice to see all those shiny things called silver.
Hopefully with a little time I am going out tomorrow.
Those are great finds and I know you will enjoy this forum.
There are a lot of diverse and witty people on this forum whom you will more than likely get your fill of.
Again, way to go on your finds.

Great job ! I have an Explorer II purchased about 8 mo. ago, and have had a good week finding silver dimes : 4 mercs : 1937 ( 2 ) , 1941 and 1945, plus 2 barbers : 1900 - 0 and a 1912 - D. Some of the signals were ' iffy ' , but I dug because they were somewhat repeatable, and , of course , glad I did. I search the yards of homes built from 1880 - 1940 here in central Florida. I work a grid pattern and go over the entire lot thoroughly, usually finding 60 - 200 coins per property. ( 80-90 % being memorial pennies and clad ) Because of my settings, I rarely dig any nails or iron junk. I'd really like to know all of your settings. Thanking you in advance, Grady

Hey Grady...

Not digging nails may be costing you a few silver coins, your settings might ignore those older "thin" dimes?? I dig nails, but sometimes I'm surprised with a deep silver coin, usually Barber or Seated. Just my opinion!!

Welcome to Tnet. That is a nice bunch of finds. You know that park has been hunted before, so congrats on getting such good finds there.

Mike

Congrats on the silver finds from local parks. I live in the Long Beach area and was wondering who was getting all the silver coins. Now I know. Would like to MD with you and compare the performance of my White's Eagle Spectrum against yours. I have found two Barber dimes (1900,1902-s) and a silver ring this year in the Long Beach/San Pedro/Seal Beach areas but nothing else. Do you ever hunt the LB Park on Cherry/Ocean Blvd?

Mike

well you kicked my arse today! only clad for me. :'( great finds!

Incredible bounty there. I guess it gives me a level to which I can aspire. Very impressive and congratulations!
