I wish to start this thread, However I am only an experienced 1266X user. I have been interested in the Tejon, as it sounds similar to the old Fisher. I have never seen the need to change machines, but it is that feeling of buying a new machine that puts me in this position. Old bush sites from the 1700's that I hunt, I felt I hammered. Friends with Whites would not find anything more. The day came 5 years ago when I bought a 1270X. It seems a lot of people felt that this machine sucked. Not me. I applied what I knew from the 1266X and found that the 1270X was more sensitive and saw through iron better at these "hunted out" sites. The 1270X isn't as good at modern sites though.
Anyways, with this arsenal, do I need a Tejon? I rarely run into bad soil out here. The odd site might contain railroad fill which contains slag and hot rocks which a ground balance might come in handy, but overall not often. The biggest and only problem as far as I'm concerned, that the 1266X has, is the interference it receives when near a satellite dish or power lines. Does the Tejon experience these problems? I know the Tejon would be lighter, that is a known fact. The next question I have I want those who have owned both machines to answer, please. Does the Tejon go deeper than the 1266X or 1270X? Is it more sensitive? What makes this machine better, if at all? Can anyone add a true head to head comparison between the 1266x and the Tejon on this thread? I've always thought that Tesoro and the old Fisher company were similar, so if I want to support a different company, it would be Tesoro. Is the Vaquero better than all of the above? I would appreciate any feedback pertaining to my questions, not someone saying "I like my Whites or Minelab" or "The Tejon is a great machine" but never owned a 1266X. Thanks in advance, as I have wondered this for sometime now. I also want to add that I am primarily a relic hunter, so my main concern is Relic hunting. Thanks again.
Dave.

I have used the 1266x and the Tejon and I prefer the Tejon. I don't know if it goes deeper, but I have found a lot of old coins that I missed with the 1266x. Many were on edge and were deep. I can't answer about the interference, I haven't been bothered with either one, but most of my sites have been in the woods away from such interference. The Tejon does handle trash better.

I've owned all three plus the Vaquero. I found that the 1266 really liked iron, but was way ahead of it's time as a relic hunter. I stepped up to the 1270 for the ground balance and was happy with it's features, but the balance was terrible. Why they didn't put the battery pack under the cuff I'll never know. The Tejon operates at a higher frequency than the others, and will pick out good targets in trash better. Never been bothered with interference with it except for electric fences, which bother any machine. It balances a little like the 1266, but is a little bit lighter. I don't think once you've used two discs that you'd be comfortable with the Vaquero, although it's a very good machine. I love all these machines, but recently got a CZ3D and find that one of the best machines I've ever used. It'll pick out good targets for me in the worst trash ever if I take the time. It has the same 2 9 volt setup as the 1270, but due to the rod setup, balances quite a bit better. I don't know if the Tejon is better than the machines you own, but it will find targets your machines miss, and vice versa. I got the Tejon because it reminded me so much of the 1266. But better, I don't think there's an easy answer for that.

Is the 1266x as chatty as the tejon?

The 1266 is "chattier" in my opinion.

I had at one time considered the Tejon too, since there is high iron masking at most of the sites I hunt. I have responded to the problem by adopting a "dig it all" approach with the 1266--even the big iron. I clean out the area, and the masking problem takes care of itself.

I hunted with a guy who had a Tejon once, and it seemed that sometimes he would get a decent hit on an item I couldn't pick up as a diggable "blip," and vice versa. I decided that since neither machine clearly outdid the other, I would stay with they one I had 17 years of experience with.

P.S.--Muddy, there is a great 1266 thread on this forum. Some rainy or cold day if you are interested, I'd love it if you'd take a look to see if anything is left out. Your experience with that model is an asset to that thread as well--and it's probably the best Resource for info on the 1265 and 66 on the internet--anywhere. :) I may try to persuade SaginawIan to change the title to something that might more readily come up on a search.
