1280 X

Can any one give me some information on the 1280 X water detector. I know that it is VLF and would like to hear from ones that used it or still use it . I am thinking of getting one.

I've been using a 1280X since the 1990's. It's an excellent machine. Done well in the lakes and rivers in northern California. I've found deep silver coins in the gravel bottom of some of the older lakes around here. Deep silver will give a distinct whisper beep in the headphones, excellent on gold rings as well. Built like a tank, will hold up with heavy use. It's a little heavy, so I hip mount it and it's as light as a feather. It may be a little more sensitive to iron than some other brands, but it will not leak. Battery compartment is separate from the electronics. Some of the other brands have the battery compartment and electronics together, so when you get a leak your in trouble. Get a long water scoop and a 1280X and have some fun!
