  Harry Oxlade came to the Colony of Victoria in 1862 from the the UK.he settled in Ballarat until his marrage to Elizabeth Jane Boonsta.Harry and wife moved to the town of Sandhurst(bendigo) in 1870.Harry took a job as the North Bendigo Postman and lived in a house in McCrae Street.The house is only 200 yards down the hill from the North Bendigo Post Office.In 1874 the couple moved to a house in Mundy Street and work at the main post office in town.The main post office was in Veiw Street.He left Bendigo in 1876.

Yesterday i went to a vacant block in McCrae Street and mded the whole block.The block has been scaped down to the pan-clay.I was surprised at how it clean was and didn't get much junk at all.I found a 1870's Colony of Victoria Post Button and buckle and a couple of fob watch pieces.

Last night i was trying to find out more info on this button and after typing many things in Google i came up with the above link.I cannot be sure that this button was his but the right time and right location and may be the right person.Thanks for reading and here a pic of Harry and the finds

The hunt only begines in the field. Mr Oxlade's name has just been read by all here, many years after his life, was it his button? or just a employee of his? maybe the dry cleaner lost it for him, never the less his name (and pic) just outdated his life. The hunt goes on. Thanks tinpan thats what this hobby is all about.

Congratulations great find. That is a very interesting story. Would be very cool to have a find that might be connected to someone that it was important enought to post a picture of them along with a brief description of who they were and what they were doing. Of course we don't know if the finds are connected or not, but really cool all the same.

Great job of doing research on what you found and where.

Hi all, I just wanted too add a better pic.Button of the left is later victorian post button [circa 1880"S] cleaned up and is tiny bit larger and more rounded[cleanded] and the one the right is the early [circa 1870's] uncleaned.
