I went to see my brother in Jacksonville for the day and decided to try the pier. It was low tide and I thought that there would be plenty of targets. I was surprised to see the width of the beach. Targets were few and far between. I spent about 4 hours there and found one 14k ring, about 2 dollars in change and a empty bullet casing marked 777C. I would like to know what type of weapon shoots that shell because I can't out much on the internet about the shell casing markings.

Congrats on the gold! You did better than me yea there today myself but a little south of the pier. I found about $1 with of change and a junk ring! The rain was pretty hard all day off and on.

Does the bullet case look anything like this?

If so, it's a cartridge made at the Lake City Army Ammo Plant. Headstamp would read LC=lake city and the year made 77. Could yours possibly be LC77?

It looks like that but has 777C on the top.

Nice gold and ice! Diamonds could likely be real at 14k

I hit the north and south side of the pier. There seemed to be more targets to the south. I was surprised how clean the beach was. There are a lot of people that go to the beach there. The beach is really wide. I will be going back again my daughter just moved there this weekend.

I'd swing for four hours for that ring! Nicely done. Using your Excal?

Thanks. I have a 1000 and the Excal II. I was using the II there in Jacksonville. It was a nice surprise considering the amount of targets. Have a great day and thanks.

note from SINGERS -SHIPWRECKS OF FLORIDA --- page 168 ---in 1711 * at cords 30 DEGREES -20 MIN LAT -- the Spanish vessel -Nuestra Senora del Rosario y San Cristobal (Nao) sailing from Havana to Spain -- * note this is where the jax peir area is and when the original pier was built --there were newspaper accounts of them hitting "buried" timbers as they sank the pilings for the pier

the shell is L= Germany--- 777 = 7 month of 77 --8 mm round

I think I have seen old pilings when several feet of sand were stripped away, which has been rare lately.
I was just looking at Historic Aerials and did not realize there were 2 piers in 1960

Guess I missed one. lol I go out there once a week or so. I have found 30-35 golds in the past 3 years and about 70 silvers out there. Have about 250 rings junk and all to date.

Well thanks for leaving it for me. It was the usual rush you get when you see it and that extra kick to keep going.

Good late season score...congrats.

Beautiful gold ring! Any idea on what type of stones those are?
