With a couple hunts on random fields to find new sites and little succsess the harvest season has come to an end. Now we have to wait for the first fields with cut down green manure. One of the best finds is this medieval seal.

schönes Siegel..nice seal!

Nice!!!! Congrats!!!!

Beautiful find! :occasion14:
I knew before I looked that it had to be a find from Europe. We just don't find those over here...

thats pretty awesome. Is it upside down, looks like a beehive castle?

Sweet find. Does it have any of the handle still intact? A seal matrix has been my most wanted find for quite some time now. Unfortunately I highly doubt I will find one here in the states.

That medieval seal is a beauty, I'd love that in my collection.

Awesome!
Seals are my favorite relic.
Do you have a photo of the back by any chance?

I'm assuming the chess piece style loop is broken off, otherwise it would be an earlier one with a flat back & small loop on the top back edge.

Lue,
That a very clear example - nice!
Shame you haven't hunted down any new sites yet, but what loads don't understand is not all European fields are filled with treasure. Takes time to find the good fields.

No handle on those. This has just a loop. A broken loop, maybe the reason why it was lost.

Thanks Steve! It will stay in my collection for now, medieval finds make my day as i don't get them often.... :occasion14:

It's one with the small loop. We put them in the 13th-14thC. range and i don't want to make it older than it is....

I found a couple new sites, but they are not that stuffed like i hoped. Most are heavily littered with shrapnel and other WWII trash so it will take some time to clear. We'll see. And yes. Many guys don't realize how much time you have to spend to get one good site... :occasion14:

Yes, seems right.
The front (ie. the design) looks squarely 14th C, but the back looks 13th C.

Congrats on the great looking seal and the sharp impression.
It's still way up on the want list-but I doubt that it will be obtained on this side of the pond.

Sorry I'm late to the party Lu. Great find. Any idea as to owner? Good luck.
