WOW AWSOME !

Order of Malta.

is it Silver ?

I'll have to check Fruther

Great Finds as Usual

yes its a year 1774 silver scudo coin from the religious order of the knights of malta -- in 1774 their grand master was --- tada * (francisco) ----"fran" ximenez de texada

the 17 you can see on the left rear top side by the loop ---sadly where the 74 should be the braising of the loop covered it.

Thanks for the replies and id I feel this coin may have been lost by maltese person who migrated after the ww2 world. The state in live has large greek, italian, maltese populations.

yes that would make sense with the loop added.

someones good luck keepsake

typical flotsam and jetsam ::) :tongue3:
KILLER coin/medal

Nice coin Tinpan . You haven't been around much...I also want to add a little more about that coin. As a jeweler, I can tell you that the loop that was "soldered" onto the coin could easily be removed by a good jeweler with little to damage to the coin. The solder will melt first, and then the jeweler will wipe the coin while it is still hot to remove the residual solder. It will not melt the coin itself, and if you are really lucky the solder could be a very low temp variety. I can't tell you how much it might cost, but I'm reasonably sure it could be restored by an expert and would increase the value of the coin. HH M

Excellent finds, Tinny. CONGRATS! Love that coin and the bottles. How about sending some of that cold winter air here to cool us off. ;D
