1640 "Nederlands" Dollar

I need to tell you guys a story that RP told me last weekend. One of his co-workers was on vacation at Wildwood Beach, New Jersey last week and came back a lot richer :D. He was walking along the wet sand area, with his family, one morning, when he saw something sticking out of the sand. Before the surf came upon it, he snatched it up. It turned out to be a 1640 "Nederlands" dollar. The fricking "thing" could have been found by anyone looking at the ground. There must have been a shipwreck near the area. I wonder what else could wash ashore?

I bet a metal detectorist was not 5 feet from it, but didn't have the luck. Some people just have the best of luck.

I was told that it is in great condition. There is no tarnish on the coin.

Sorry, I couldn't get a picture of it.

Never heard that one but have heard similar.

It's not the poor folks finding them either.

Somebody either walked right by it. Or it just happened to wash up in the right time.

I know of another guy, Ed, that metal detected a beach in Florida after a hurricane. Well, to make a long story short, he found 3 Gold coins from the 1600s. He later sold them and started his own Landscaping business. The treasure is just waiting to be found!

Hey nice find!!! I was stationed in Holland and know that "nederland " is dutch for Netherlands. Also look to see if you can find the word Guilder. That is what the dutch call there coins, and then the # Ein is 1 twee is 2 drie is 3 and vier is four. it seems like maybe you should check if any dutch settled in your area in the late 16 early 1700's.. Anyway great find if u need any info let me know...
