Most ground is frozen around here, so I hit the woods on Thursday where the dirt is a little more insulated and digable. I was searching near a cellar hole, but it was overgrown and I was getting no decent signals. So, I headed away, swinging on any clear areas until I ended up on a hiking trail about a 100 feet away. I was swinging along the edge of the trail for about five minutes when I got a nice coin sound in the low 30s on the Equinox. I dug my hole and was excited to see a large copper pop out. I rescanned the hole and was still getting high tones. I expanded the hole and saw the gray edge of a coin stick out, which I knew was some sort of silver. I rescanned again and still had high tones. I ended up digging two more coppers from the same hole. When I got home, I determined the silver coin was a 1754 2-Reale minted in Mexico City, in great shape too. I next saw that I had two Fugios. Unfortunately, they are in rough shape, either because of the soil or my lousy cleaning skills. Still, the chain stands out and I can see the 1787 date. The final coin was a 1797 Draped Bust large cent. I have only found a few of these coins, and this is my first one dated from the 1700s. Pretty exciting dig for me, but total luck, of course. Thanks for checking out my post. Good luck out there!

Outstanding!!!! That's Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

Holy cow... what a stellar day... Well done and then some.

BANNER day all day long.
Thanks ARC. I almost got skunked. It was really only that one hit/hole, but it was a good one.

That has to be one of the greatest spills ever- Congrats fellow Mass hunter- my banner vote will follow.
Thanks Jeff! I have been blessed to have a couple spills, but none this old or interesting. I wish the coppers held up better, but at least there was some detail remaining, especially on the Draped Bust. Hope things thaw out here in Mass for us. Good luck out there.

Damn...Lenmac65...That is fantastic!!!!!! Gotta love good ole Massachusetts! Big, big congratulations!!!!!!
Thanks Silvermonkey. Sometimes living in Mass makes me a bit crazy, but it is a great place to detect if you can access the right places. I did get lucky on this one, though the research put me in the right area. Hope it warms up a bit though, because even the forest is getting tough in spots. I look forward to your next post. Happy hunting and good luck out there.

Incredible finds fellow Mass hunter! You are brave to battle the elements and it paid off! Congrats.

You reconfirmed it only takes one recovery/find to make a hunt.
It would make my season, that's for sure.
Congrats on the coppers and the silver an awesome winters recovery.

To echo what the others have said, lenmac65, congratulations on those finds! And I'm inspired by your willingness to go out in the cold and find places where your shovel could actually penetrate the earth - I might even try it myself today.

Congratulations on your fantastic hunt
