Hey guys,

Found these 2 metal disks near a few LCs and a 1655 silver cob coin. The first one is made of copper measuring 17mm and the other made of an unknown metal at 18mm. I tested the second with the silver streak acid test and it dissolved... Any ideas??

That might be a spanish cross on the silver coin thus a spanish cob coin would be a strong possibility...As for the copper I THINK i see a forehead and nose facing left, but very crude rendering, thus could be a George II halfpenny counterfeit of the period (pretty common coin to be counterfeited at the time).

As far as Spanish reals they were not all made of silver, most were made of copper which doesn't last long in bad soil, I know because I found 2 of them and they resemble what you have shown. Not saying I'm completely sure that's what these are but looks really close. Research copper reals and see what you think

BzBadger,

Thanks for your help as well, my initial thought after digging the silver one was a 1/2 real. The dimensions match up and the impurities may explain why it failed the acid test.

To muddy up the waters even more on the copper, here is something ELSE I think I might be seeing......... a right facing young Louis XV bust, thus making this coin a copper 1/2 SOL or SOL of approximately 1719-34. Any letters or numbers you might think you see in person could help clear up the mystery.

Sadly the copper is pretty roached bedford, but I think your on to something. The profile seems to line up nicely with the 1/2 SOL with the reverse having a faint outline of a crown. May have just green checked this one!
