1700's or 1800's holed British silver coin? No idea.

Found this silver coin this morning and it's in rough condition. Looks to have a lion in a crest or possibly an assayer's mark. I know NOTHING about British coins (if it is British), so please steer me in the right direction.

I'm thinking it could be from the 1800's or even earlier. I found a colonial shoe buckle about 200 feet from where I found this coin, so it could be that old. Probably not, but you never know what you'll find here in RI.

Sorry for the lousy pics, but this coin is small and tough to get into focus.

Okay, it looks like the date ends with "84". So it's either 1784 or 1884. Guess I'll have to do more research on this one!

Bramblefind,

Wow! Thank you! Never would have found it myself. I was searching through British coins and then colonial U.S. coins. You saved me a lot of trouble. Can't believe I found a silver coin that old! Bets my 1903 Barber dime by 119 years! Thanks again!
