I studied the history, I read all the posts on the subject, I know the rules, I upgraded my equipment, and I am heading to Florida in a week (for business).

I probally will only have one full day to hit the beaches of the Treasure Coast, but it will be fun. I am hoping for a storm early the week of Feb 7th. I will report my finds (if any) after the trip.

Wish me luck!

My pleasure. I derived this from JB's Metal Detecting Resource Site (Wet Saltwater Beach Program) By the way, I use the standard 9 1/2 coil. Start with the Jewelry/Beach program and modify the following:

A.C. Sensitivity:__63_ D.C. Sensitivity:__31
Autotrac Speed:__15
Recovery Speed:__19
Bottlecap Reject:__2
V.D.I. Sensitivity:__83
Transmit Boost:_OFF
Preamp Gain:__4

You may have to play with the Preamp Gain. Make sure the XLT is stable, and ground balance (on wet sand) with preamp adjustments. If you cannot ground balance on the wet sand, do not worry. The defaults will suffice. Keep the coil out of the water, and do not touch the ground. If that happens, a false signal will occur. I was able to find pennies 6-8 inches in the wet sand. Some local THers said people with XLTs do very good on the Treasure Coast.

Enjoy!

Interesting story on Corrigans. I had the same access problem. Talked to a guy on the beach..his take was..he was at a coin show, and guess who was displaying coins from Corrigans found after the storm? Indian River County cops. Seems they have made the beach off limits so that they have their own private beach to hunt. Greedy bastids. Your public servants at work. Yea, I've gotta parking ticket for parking tooo close to Corrigans.

I could not understand why a temporary beach access or parking could not be setup. Other areas have done the same to compensate for the lack of beach accesses. I came from Iowa and met others from around the country. It seems to me the local government should be more accommodating, it can only spur more business.

However, I must admit that the locals I talked to were very friendly and more than willing to give me a tip. I am thinking about bringing the family down for vacation in the future. This area is not as crowded as other Florida areas. :)

Last time I MD'd on Florida's east coast was around Sebastion. Beach was called Turtle Beach. Can't recall exaclty where that is now. I read references to Chuck's Steak House, and seem to think it was in that area.

Anyone familiar with this beach?
