I thought that 1/2 dollar 1976 was not silver. I hope its not silver because i just returned 3 1/2 dollars to the bank.

They will have an "S" mintmark, but some "S" mintmark 1976s are clad.

You can also weigh it. I don't remember the weights off the top of my head but it will weigh the same as a regular 40%er. A clad proof will weigh the same as a regular clad half.

The sound test will never let you down, it will sound just like any other Silver half when you drop it, clink clink. HH, Maverick.

I found a silver 1976 Kennedy in a CWR a few months ago, probably someone's dump that didn't realize it was silver. It has the silver edge and like Maverick said the sound test produces that sweet sound of silver.
