Here's my best find so far. Not much to look at, but man does it ever have "character". This is a "backyard" find, 200 yds from my house in my uncle's garden. I haven't been able to get it weighed accurately, but it is thin enough to be a possible counterfeit although the striking appears too good. HH

I been over to Ireland twice and I dug up about thirty or so of them each time. Mostof them were wore out copper half penny's most of them are bank token not worth much but it keeps you interested throw out the day. I did fine some old silver coins that were nice, the oldies was a 1280 London penny. If you can go over, you will love it.

Here is one of mine, a definite counterfeit. :)

Look at the O in GEORGIVS - it was a G made into an O
That is the most obvious distinction on this coin.

Thanks for the comments folks!

Ireland is a big dream of mine. Maybe someday.

Thanks a bunch for the pics and info Don. I wish mine was in that condition. From what I can tell, the fakes are worth more than the real McCoy.

Keep on Swingin

It's always nice to dig a coin that old, no matter what the condition. I live in Ireland and I don't find too many of those.

Kevin,

You are so correct on the fact the counterfeit British Colonials are worth more than the Regals, in fact the majority of British Colonial coins found in America are counterfeits. Especially the King George III coppers, including the Irish ones.

Absolutely excellent find. One to be proud of indeed.

Congratulations,

Awesome!

My 1782 is one of my favorite finds, though it's not particularly valuable monetarily.

Look how crude the portrait is on it- it's almost certainly a contemporary counterfeit.

I dug a 1782-A French Guiana (Cayenne) 2-sous piece about a foot away from it, and a 1779 Spanish (Mexico City) 2-reales on the same site.

Thank you lord :D for the reply. Yours does look surspicious to me. Mine's a little rough to say for sure I think.

You sure have a killer spot for detecting. England, France and Spain on one beach. WOW. I have a buddy near Valdosta I need to visit. Maybe I'll get to hit the coast sometime.
