Haven't posted much this year......'cause I haven't found much this year. And I still haven't. This was found by my friend Roswell. After twice in the peroxide, and Q-Tips, the patina wasn't coming off. So I though I'd better leave it as is. The back is toast. It's either a S-81 or S-82. The one I found last year was in slightly better condition, only because the reverse was better. Great find for Roz, as it's the first coin he has found in about 3 years!:headbang::BangHead::laughing9: I was kinda ticked because I was headed right for it......but changed direction:BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

Your friend did well! Congrats to him.

Sweet LC! Absolutely love coppers.

Tell Ros. Congrats!
Don't you hate when that happens, you decide to head in a different direction, when you shouldn't have! I have done that numerous times!

My favorite Large Cent to find! I am pretty sure the reverse makes it a S-81. Compare the distance between the F of OF and A of AMERICA, S-81 seems to have a bit more spacing between the two, but what really convinced me is comparing where I think the letters F of OF and A or AMERICA are in relationship to the closest leaf. I wish the photo was a tad clearer to see the leaves more plainly but from what I think I see the leaf closest to F is further away than the S-82 and the leaf closest to the A is closer to the lower right side of A where on the S-82 it is closer to the left side of A.

very nice find! Just took a 1796 LC out of a very long olive oil soak - it does look better now.

hello Don (the colonial coin finder of SJ) :)

Your buddy must have been stoked when he seen that. Yours will come just gotta get out and dig.

That's a really great find , when you consider the relatively low mintage of these ! Congratulations on picking up a rare U.S. type coin .

Isn't that the way life is! We often take a turn in our' life that significantly changes our future. I know that I have and had I not made several bad turns in life, I would probably be rich. One of those bad turns while only costing me a $20 loss at the time, could have been a $180,000 profit about 3 years down the road.

Congrats to your friend, Roswell on a great find! Hopefully it will not take another 3 years to find another coin!
