17th century English Mule chest?

It's fairly heavy but not as heavy as my 1655 Leeds coffer.

3rd picture has a nail or a metal pin protruding from the corner?

It's actually a wood peg that is frayed at the end and starting to come out. Here's a picture from a different angle.

The only thing that looks suspect are the nails in the picture below. Unless it is a newer repair.

It's actually the 3rd set of hinges. It started out with snipe hinges, then larger strap hinges, followed by these. At some point someone put screws in it. I have a letter that came with it. The letter has a picture of what looks to be my chest featured in a 1971 catalogue from an exhibit at Temple Newsam. Temple Newsam is a 44 room house on 1000 acres built in Leeds from 1500-1520. I found an old copy of the catalogue that is on it's way to me from The U'K. When it arrives I will post a clearer picture.

I really examined it extensively today and it looks so much older with more wear than my 1655 chest. Like I said it's held together with a lot of wood pegs in fact there's a crack that someone tried to repair with wood pegs! I would date it to 1620 all things considered
