1800's Half Dollar. Awesome 2 Cent Piece. Plus A Bunch Of Other Oldies

Hi everyone,

Haven't been out hunting as much as I would like to. Had a death in the family just recently and with a new born my time has been limited.

However the 2 or 3 times I have been out over the past 2 or 3 weeks have been decent. My main hunting grounds at the moment is a good 15 miles there and back from my home.

I'm burning through tanks of gas like crazy. I have a V-8 also and it only runs on premium fuel. So it's 50.00 to fill it. And it seems to be so frequent.

So I make my trips in moderation to this site. Wish I could hunt it on a daily basis.

Last weekend was a nice outing though. Me and Lance my brother got out early Sat morning. I scored a nice 1899 barber half. Then almost right after that I got a really nice 1864 2 cent piece.

Lance, was really hating me then. He had only wheats that day. But it happens to all of us. I also got a 1908 V-nickle in the same hole as the barber half.

I've been finding alot of holes lately with more than one old coin in it. Like today got 3 wheats in one hole. First pic shows them. Then got a wheat and a buffalo in the same hole. I love when that happens. Today was like that for me. I was digging more than one old coin per hole.

The total of finds in the pics break down like this:

9 wheat cents
1 1936 Buff
1 1908 v nickle
1 1899 barber half
1 1941 merc
1 1864 2 cent piece
1 Unknown/Coin Or Token

And a unknown coin or token. Smooth on both sides. It's the size of a u.s quarter. Made of copper with a nickle plating. Probably a old foreighn coin. It was deep and I know at one point in time it was some kind of coin.

Hope everyone is getting out and finding the good stuff. Last pic is of a close friends car. I was working on it for about a week. It's for sale if anyone is in the market for a muscle car.

Lol No way Gold Fish. I was actually detailing it. I keep my own vehicles spotless. He brought the car to me pretty dirty and banged up.

I took alot of before and after shots. It looked great when it was done. That is a done pic. Took me about 20 hrs to get it back to par.

Hey Jer. Couple of real nice coin there. Barber Half is sweet. I scored my first last Saturday(see my "big silver at the iceberg" post). Nate was not happy about that as I had already doubled his silver count for the day. He did find a nice barber dime after I found my half so it ended on a good note.

That two cent piece is SMOKIN! That is sweet. That is one of the coins on my to find list.

It was my wife's grandfather. I have known him for around 10 yrs when he passed away. He lived like 5 minutes away from me. He had a major heart attack while cutting the lawn.

He actually washed his car. Then wen't to cut the grass in the heat. He had one pass left until the yard was done and he died. His wife wasn't home so his neighbors saw him lieying out there. They tried tom help but it was to late.

He was 69. We all got to get old and it's tough. As I get older now I am starting to go to alot more funerals. Life is short.

Anyways, things are geting better now. Time will heal everything.

Mirage, I saw the half. Congrats on it to. They are hard to find. I only avg one barber half a yr. I've found 2 in a yr. But then none the following.

I didn't expect it. I got it on a old path about 7 inches down. I knew the signal was something good. It was a strong 88. I thought a quarter more than likely.

This area I am hunting I have known about for some time. It just took me a few hunts or so to realize there is good stuff there still.

The 2 cent piece was the shocker. I got it also on the same old path. Reading in the 50's like they should. I assumed a screw cap. But out it came. Iy held up really well. It was in some barky kind of soil. If that makes any sence. Lot of dead wood in the soil.

Rtde, You must know cars. That is what that is. A 1970 olds 442 W C 30 Package. It drove me around. It is one really powerful machine. You need to eat a steak before you take the thing out lol. For energy with the non power steering and brakes.

The buffalo was cleaned like this. Peroxide bath and all tooth picked down. Rinced and let dry. Took a product called mothers mag and aluminum polish.

Buffed it all out until I was happy with the result. The better the condition of the coin the better it will come out. The more dirt you remove the better it will come out also.

Great digs Jeremy! Gotta love big silver. It's been a while for me (outside of Washington quarters) and have never scored a silver half other than Walkers and one Franklin.

And, like Bob....a 2 center is near the top of my list too. Right next to a LC.
