1800'S HOME FINDS FROM MARCH THRU JULY

I recently posted pic's of an 1876 sheild nickel that I found in my back yard. I didn't realize just how much I had dug to find it until I spread everything out an looked at it today. I will tell you a little bit about my home ( as much as I know anyway). The oldest Plat map I have seen so far is 1893 and it show the house sitting right where it is today so I am sure it is at least that old. It also burned down sometime early in the 20th century but I do not know exactly when. They had an incubator in the kitchen for chicken eggs and someone laid a newspaper on top of it an it caught the house on fire. I have included some pic's of the roof in the attic. You can see where they used some of the burned lumber from the fire as sheeting when they rebuilt the roof. One of my finds was a temperature guage from an incubator...could be the one that burned the house??

I have only had my ACE250 since march and I am still learning how to use it. I don't know exactly how many hours I have hunted this yard but I am about 1/2 way thru my second set of batteries. I am really disappointed that I have not found more older coins. Aside from the 1876 nickel and a 1950 Rosie it has all been clad and not very much of that. Enjoy the pic's and thanks for looking. Lots of period iron and maybe copper there, every bit has its own history which is kinda cool, now once you've removed all the iron and other pieces you'll have to start griding the whole area again but from the opposite angle, you'll be suprized at how much more stuff you will find and I bet many more coins that where being masked.

Yep kinda...LOL

Lots of period iron and maybe copper there, every bit has its own history which is kinda cool, now once you've removed all the iron and other pieces you'll have to start griding the whole area again but from the opposite angle, you'll be suprized at how much more stuff you will find and I bet many more coins that where being masked.

I think you've done terrific!

That's a lot of digging you've done but you found some wonderfull stuff.

Besides the two coins, I like the bell and lighter.

Thanks Sparky, I found the bell just this morning. I believe it is brass. I got all the dirt out of it and it still has the ball inside and sounds really cool when it rings. I might make a wind chime out of some of this junque and make the bell the center piece. HH Charlie

Thanks Tex, I try to keep my yard nice (it really irritates my neighbors) And as for a wife...I traded her for a metal detector...Best deal I ever made. HH Charlie

Sweet finds...Thats alot of work.I also use the same Detector,Digger and Gloves as you...But i Think i skip as many targets as you Dig .Keep at it.

Thanks scrapdoggie, I am getting pretty good at guessing what I am going to dig. A few of the items fooled me pretty good though. The crotal bell (I think thats what it is called) rang in as a very solid dime signal. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't a silver dime but very pleased with it being a bell. HH Charlie

Man you must be really good at digging! Thats alot of stuff. Aren't you afraid the grass will die out? Someone on here said the glass mason jar lids were worth a couple bucks each looks like you got about 6 or 7 of em. Thats a sweet v nickle. Good luck on finding the coins since you got alot of the junk out!! Oh yeah, that cracked me up about that nice swap you made hahahaha. HH Tom

Thanks Tom, actually we have had a pretty wet year and the grass looks really good. I have noticed that as long as I leave one side of the plug attached I don't even notice where I have dug. There are a few brown spots but they are way down from the house in the back yard.
That is actually an 1876 sheild nickel. HH Charlie
