Re: 1800's picnic area

Hey have a good time with that spot, looks like it would be a lot of fun, but do make sure you take your gun with you! And dont wear head phones so you can hear um better.

Re: 1800's picnic area

Re: 1800's picnic area

Re: 1800's picnic area

I once knew a big, tall, strapping fellow named George... young and very well muscled.

In the course of working together I noticed large scars on the back of his neck and had to ask about them...

He had worked for the Forestry department, grooming trails... came around a corner of a trail in the outback and there was a good sized coyote right before him, wagging it's tail. NOT a good sign!

George had time to say, "Shoo!"

As the coyote leaped at him, George turned away and hunched over as it landed upon his head and shoulders and bit the heck out of him as he tried to wrestle it off him. After a minute he was able to fling it off himself with enough force that it ran away, not to be seen again.

Yep. It had rabies and he went through all the shots and such.
Laid him up for a while...
Said it was one thing he'd rather not go through again!

It's difficult to be prepared for all circumstances.

Re: 1800's picnic area

from what the owner told me, they're just dogs that have gone wild.
as far as coyotes, most of them run before you ever see them. That guy should have never turned his back, that kicks in the instinct to attack.

Re: 1800's picnic area

just gotta stare me down unless theres more than one.then just remember u have a gun think ps2 :P

Re: 1800's picnic area

question I have. What was he doing without a weapon ?

Re: 1800's picnic area

Ihad a friend who lived in a trailer park about 15 miles out in the country, was visiting one evening and when we all got ready to leave we were walked out with a gun the ferel dogs were so bad, we didn't see them though, but the next am the local farmers and ranchers, came by on horse back armed they where going to get them they had been losing to many cattle and sheep family pets, and couldn't let the kids go out even to the bus stop safely, these were dogs that people went and dumped:
Collies--Sheppards--Golden retrivers--Irish setters--Cockers--there was all breeds.
They will find each other and band togeather they would kill also the new born live stock, and people still dump rather than find a new home or the alternitive.
It is very sad! For all espically the animal!

Re: 1800's picnic area

i here talk of how pitbulls and rotwilers dobermen and all of them are bad dogs.theres no such thing as a bad dog.just a bad owner.

Re: 1800's picnic area

there is no doubt about bad owners, however, the breeds you mentioned, pitbull, was bred to take down wild bulls on ranches, both dobys and rotts were bred to be guard/attack dogs so all three are bred for violence.
back in the old days of dog fighting they would feed the dogs black powder to make the dogs meaner, one side effect they didn't expect, they couldn't control the dogs after that

Re: 1800's picnic area

that looks like an old road bed in the photo. ill bet you find some nice stuff!

Re: 1800's picnic area

that's not a road bed, it's actually where the Ninnescah river floods, in that area the river actually rises about 16 ft in the spring. I'm going back down there today, so I'll get some more photos

Re: 1800's picnic area - Revisted

How deep is it through there? :icon_sunny:

Re: 1800's picnic area - Revisted

in the first 2 pictures, the still water is about 18 inches. in the second picture, in the middle you can see the river. at that point I would guesstimate 20 - 25 ft deep.
In the bottom 2 pictures, they were taken from a bridge over the river, straight to the west of the picnic area,
probably about 20 -25 ft and about 200 ft wide. It channels down to about 75 ft at the picnic area
