1800's Schoolhouse site desk part???

This piece came up near the Indian head at a one room schoolhouse site. It is cast iron and looks like it could be part of one of the desks? The number 2 cast in to it is interesting. Look familiar to anyone?? Thanks for any input..
Jerry

Thats what it looks like to me. Part of a leg to desk or hinge for top.

I'm not sure what it is but I would have to go against the desk part idea.... it seems like the number two is big for it to not have a use or reason for being there. JMO but I think the two has something to do with what it was used for due to the size and triangle around it.

I attended elementry school in Reynoldsburg Ohio and we used the cast iron base desks from the first thru 6th grades...school still used them up until the mid 60's (1960's that is)

The peice you found may be from the seat hinge portion of the base...desks didn't have hinged tops.

Looks a little heavy duty for a desk part. I'll go with part of a wood-burning stove. Though what part I have no clue. :icon_scratch:

Wow, those pics took me back. I'm older'n a wood fencepost and seeing those desks lined up reminded me of that. I sat in some that had the old inkwells in them in my first year or two. There were names carved in all sides of those desks. I think about now how many of those have been burned, along with some famous/infamous signatures. :icon_pirat: Funny how we destroy history in the name of progress.
