Went back to the site where I found the 1864 L Indian last week- good signals were far fewer, in fact I only dug 2 coins for the day, the first was a disappointing memorial penny at 8", but not far from it, and even deeper, I found what appeared to be a large cent and it looked every bit as good as the Indians from last week. The obverse was perfect, just shook the dirt off and saw the 1802 Draped Bust, clear as day- turning it over however, yielded a totally different story. Not exactly sure what happened but the reverse is terrible, especially compared to the other copper coins I've found here. Oh well, I'm happy with it anyway. I did add a beat up silver thimble and half a compact with an ornate design.

Enjoy the pics and HH all!

That Draped Bust is in outstanding condition :icon_thumleft:

Congrats on the old copper! :icon_thumleft:

Great ole copper....and if you had to pick which side you want to show better, then you did real well with that obverse.

Very nice thimble, I need a draped bust someday I love how they look and that bucket has been empty for too long.Good post

Nice one Jeff.

I'd call that a successful dig! And you were able to get out somewhere :)

Nice hunt, Jeff. That largie looks great to me.

Beautiful DB!! My only DB was an 1804, and it took me over a week to get a date, so consider your find very fortunate! Also most thimbles I find are smashed to hell and back, so again, great saves. Congrats on a successful day, Ddf,

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

That's a beauty of a draped bust. It's a bummer when one side is great and the other is destroyed but that one is still pretty nice overall. I would guess that it sat in the ground face down and the years of water sitting on top of the reverse did that.
