Bought these two oil paintings at an nearby estate auction near Culpeper, Va. They were listed as early 19th century, which they appear to be. They are signed by the artist whose name is Pepnoon and have a date of '05. There was an artist named Willis Pepnoon who did portraits from 1860 to 1940 and was rather well known. These appear to too primitive to match his works however, and the frames are clearly much early than 1900 based on their back side construction. Does anyone know if Willis have a father or grandfather (more likely) who could have painted these in 1805. I couldn't fine any info on Willis Pepnoon's relatives. DSCI3090.JPGDSCI3092.JPG
