What exactly is about it that indicates that it is a counterfeit to you?
I don't see any corrosion typical of a copper coin, only heavy oxidation(toning) from the ground, to me it looks legit

Yes It could be Just looking at it quickly it looked like the other counterfeits I have seen of this type. They are often very well done and look just like the legit ones as far as detail goes.

Maybe a weight and/or even a reading from the detector could help pin it down.
