I did pretty well today considering I have only been seriously detecting since June. I got a lead on an old house from craigslist. The house was near an area where Hessians had quartered during the revolutionary war and the house itself was nearly 145 years old. Right away I found an 1898 Peace Jubilee Medal. The peace jubilee was a celebration held in Philadelphia to mark the end of the Spanish-American War (I will post a pic once I clean it up.) The medal is really nice looking and has the date Oct 26-27 1898 right on the front so there is no confusion as to when it is from lol. A little later I found a 1820 large cent which is in moderately good condition and once I clean it up it should look nice (picture coming soon) Any idea on how much that coin is worth? A little later I found a button which could be revolutionary in origin, it appears to be copper or bronze and it has a large W (or M) on it. I will post a pic of everything as soon as it comes out of the olive oil. I had a great day considering I haven't been detecting long.

Nice finds, RMac!

Old coppers are seldom worth a lot in dug condition, unless they are rare ones. Finding a large cent is certainly a cause for celebration though. The coins' large size made them harder to lose and easier to find when lost, generations ago. Congrats again on your find. Is this your oldest coin to date?

I'm excited to see the photos, and I'm certain that someone will have ideas about your mystery copper.

Regards,

Buckleboy

Yep oldest coin found so far.

Nice coin, and Buckleboy said it first: had you found that in an old dresser, you'd be looking at double figures easily. From the ground, it's a great find!
