Very cool find never seen anything like it

Sweet!! I'd vote banner.

What is the denomination? ( if not legible - what is the size ? dime or quarter ? ) I've not seen a Capped Bust button before - NICE !

That's a very unique and wonderful find. Way to go.

That is really cool! Congrats!

My buddy detected a Seated Half that had a similar modification. Very interesting.

Congrats on the find!

It could be a pair of coins made into cuff links. Go back and find the other half.

It was actually pretty common practice to use small coins for buttons. Most often it was Spanish half reales. I've only found one that was used as a button, but I know others who've found half reales make into buttons as well. Here's mine:

I Too have heard of reales being used for buttons , I believe there are revolutionary military examples too! Have also seen large cents used as coat buttons, First bust coin! Awesome job!

wow that is a great find thanks for sharing

Yes, it happens quite a lot. I've even seen Roman Coin buttons. They also make them into cuff links & bracelets etc....
