183? Mexican Reale

I broke into the 1800's yesterday and didn't know it until this evening. Made a quick search (5 minutes) of a long gone home site in an alfalfa field while taking a break from putting up fence and came up with this very rough plow bitten Mexican 8 reale. Can't make out exactly what the last number of the date is...dang plow! My first 1800's coin found with the MD.
Tomorrow afternoon could be very interesting. :wink:

I think it probably is. From what I've read they were heavily counterfeited. Isn't cleaning up like any silver I've ever seen.
 

To me it looks like it was purposely cut out. Most likely is a real reale ;D

P.S. Also it looks like counterstamps on it., which would suggest it's genuine.

Very nice find! Based on the closeup of the date, I would say it looks like 1833. An excellent find indeed!
 

Sweet coin find! Im gonna guess 1832! :thumbsup:
