XP Deus, Whites TRX bullseye Pin Pointer
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Went to a spot today that was good to me in the past, started finding wheatbacks, got one indian head penny, a nickel, some other random finds all around this one tree. Figured that people were spending their time underneath the tree for whatever reason. Off to the side got a nice, bright, low-mid 90s signals. Good sound but bouncy a bit, since I was digging everything underneath the tree I started marking out the plug. Flipped out the plug and found the most annoying thing ever, coal. These things can really play tricks on metal detectors and its very frustrating to find them. Either way, figured I would clean out the hole and check deeper, loosened some soil with the Lesche and started removing the soil when what I thought was a Large Cent fell out of the dirt. Kept looking at it while all covered in dirt and I thought I was seeing a ship on one of the sides, well, its a first for me:

Edit: The words around the ship are "Webster Credit Current" and the other side says "Not One Cent For Tribute" and "Millions For Defence"

Not knowing what I found I kept on swinging and fighting the fresh leaf cover, which is about 4-5 inches easy, when I got a beautiful mid 90s signal, knowing the age of the place was really hoping for something from the 1800s, when this popped out:

I called it a good day and left, will be back there soon enough, and hopefully will have more finds to share! Happy digging everyone :)

PS. If anyone knows anything about the hard times token please share, all I know is that it is a hard times token and not much else, thank you!

I found one similar a couple weeks ago, but mine had a bust on the front and is in rough shape. Here's what it should look like. Google hard times token, yours will be there. Nice find.

Did you soil your pants?
Nice finds buddy

Those Not One Cent tokens are great finds. I've found plenty of large cents but only one Large Cent token. I love the ship and remember when looking through the tokens that I wished I had found one with a ship on it! Congrats!

DANG WHAT A FIND . SOMETHING ABOUT THEM SHIP SAILS THAT CATCH MY EYES. AWESOME .....

I did some looking but cant really see any info on varieties or rarities, maybe there just isnt a database like that, who knows. Was that the first one for you or have you found more?

Not this time! Although I am carrying a spare set of underwear just in case, its sort of a good luck charm I suppose lol. I almost did soil my pants a couple weeks ago when a large 6 point buck walked up to me, maybe 20 feet at most. No matter what I did it didnt move, yelling, waving around, threw a rock at its feet ... nothing, just standing there. Surely thought it would be the end of me, then it turned around and went about its business.

This is a first for me as well, was a bit confused when I saw the ship on the back, had no idea they made these token like this. If not for the ship I probably would have just thrown it in the good finds pouch and forgotten about it thinking it was a LC.

Yes, they look very nice, also surprised how the sails look so much better preserved than the other side, curious if its the top of the coin that stays in better shape or the bottom of the coin once it is dropped.

I love that token, better than a large cent IMO. Nice silver too!

Very nice finds. Congrats. The hard time token is just killer! Well played.

Congrats on pulling that SLQ and the Token. Those 2 finds would add up to a great hunt for anyone.

That is the only token of any kind that I've found.

That is an awesome token! Must have been the week for tokens, alot of them posted! I love it!

The ship token is bad arse. Never found one. :occasion14:

What a nice find on the token. You have some wonderful finds!

Actually I have not seen many of those hard times tokens.

Great looking token, congrats on the find.
n the early to mid 1800s, President Andrew Jackson and his VP, Martin Van Buren, ran into major economic downturns due to poor financial decision making. Private individuals started to issue copper coinage with political and commerce themes which are today known as Hard Times Tokens.

Congrats on both those great finds! The tokens aren't posted often so if I had to vote for my favorite, the silver would have to take back seat!

Frankly I thought about it quite a bit and I cant pick a favorite among those two items, I like the token, its my first and pretty darn cool. I also like the SLQ because I have only found one of them before and this one is in far better shape than the first one I had found. It's a good day detecting when you cant pick a favorite find!
