I bought this 1851 Colt Navy from a gentleman in Missouri at an antique mall. The guy said it was a Colt look a like pistol and been in his family for about 30 yrs and decided to sale it. So I bought for under $ 100 buck thinking its worth more. The only story I got out of the guy from the pistol is that its a battle field pick up in Kansas City on his own family property near the Westport area. From the pics its a Colt from the markings on top of the barrel and the serial #s 76481 3 out of 4 places. Barrel, lower rec, and strap matck but the but strap # is 28503.

Trying to fiqure out the yr it was made and parts to fix it up a bit. The trigger works but the cylinders doesnt rotate and still loaded, 2 out of the 4 remaining. Truthfully I rather have a working one but this will do for now.

Better check out the auction site rules , How would you get it to the winning bidder , Shippers are funny about that loaded stuff Be careful

Here's a source for original replacement parts. : Colt 1851 Navy
You can replace what's missing for under 200$ and it will increase the value for you. If the numbers matched I'd say leave it alone, but since they don't having it complete will be a big bonus if you want to sell it.

I would pull the rounds. That powder can be very corrosive and have seen it start to turn to a gel and get unstable. The powder will be hard as rock possibly. Have someone knows what they doing unload it as you will be pulling the round out towards you. With that many mixed matched serial numbers I would restore with parts from Dixie gun works and use it as a wall hanger.

Please post a picture of the pulled bullets if you do pull them. Great finD by the way...d2

I might have a buyer for it but I'll have to wait and see.

Well the buyer didn't fall thru so now I disassembled it. Everything is off except the cyl that's still some what rusted on. Now soaking in some solution to help loosen it.

Under the cylinder there is a cylinder stop, that indexes the chambers. if you remove the trigger guard you'll see a double flat spring with a screw holing it in place. remove that screw and the spring will fall loose and relieve the tension so that the cylinder can slide free. Be very careful with those screws though as they are easily deformed, and you don't want to mess them up.

I figured it out after removing the trigger and all. After that it came out very easy. So far I cleaned it up some and bought repo parts.

I'd like to see some photos when you're done, and I'm sure others would as well. Keep in mind, the value actually will be lower with repro parts on it, but if you spend a bit more to buy original parts it will go up a bit. Enough to make the investment worthwhile anyway.

Sweeeet pistol!!!

Would also like to see a pic of the pulled rounds lol

Not going to pull them. I'll get pic shortly

Well here are some updated pics on the old Colt 1851 pistol. Some repo parts but hopefully Ill have some original one soon.

I posted the new pics on front page

contact Rick on Pawn Stars , he has a guy that can tell ya every thing about any thing ....:tongue3:

...and he'll show up in just a couple of hours.

Nice buy. I love old guns.

Looks pretty good all cleaned up. The link I posted lists original screws for the loading lever. Don't try to put a repro screw in there because it will likely be a metric thread. If you'd like to age that cylinder to make it match, you can remove the bluing with tarn-x and get a bottle of "rust blue" from Dixie Gun Works. It'll give it a nice golden brown color to match the barrel and frame. Be sure to remove the nipples first though, it will seize them up and they'll never come out.
