Hi Everyone,

I was hunting a field for points and came across this dime sitting on the surface. I understand it's fairly common, but there is a cut out kind of cross shape in it that seems purposeful, maybe just residual damage over the years, but looks too clean to have been made by the elements. Any info on the coin or marking is greatly appreciated, I know next to nothing about coins.

I'm sure it is post mint damage I find a lot of coins like that and hit by lawn mowers ECT but I would be very happy with that coin

That is one strange stamping, almost like what a leather tool stamp might do.
Definitely adds a personal touch to it!
Kudos,
Carl

Cool coin, and welcome to Tnet!

I think its a counterstamped "merchant" coin .
Welcome to T-net !!

Very nice find, Welcome to TNet!!!

I think Argentium is correct and it's somewhat common along with holing to wear, along with handmade love tokens. Nice find!

Welcome to tnet

Stamped on not! That is an awesome find! :occasion14:

Nice find. Congrats. Welcome to tnet from Niagara Falls.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and helpful insights into the marking on this coin. We didn't find any points today, but found this scraper yesterday, and then to find this coin certainly made for a nice Easter weekend.
