1864 to 1866 (?) Marine Button, Horstmann and Co. Phila. PA (nope, early 1900s)

I was told this is actually a marine button, not naval. Found this one yesterday and a couple of button websites narrow it down to 1864-1866. If anyone can shed additional light on this one, much appreciated. [Some additional input from our CA forum and Tice indicates this design is consistent with post-1902 buttons by this manufacturer]. - Jim

I will confirm it's a U.S. Marine uniform button... but it sounds like the rest of it is figured out!

You're not gonna do a helluva lot better than Tice! You'll also find the backmarks and button faces often don't jive with the indicated information... a newer face on an older back... weird.
