1864 two center & 1891 V nickel + gun id needed
Opportunity is around the next corner, so keep your detector handy. I was coming back from a work meeting driving through the Connecticut countryside. I saw a big sign about this historic house and how there was a school, blacksmith, etc. way back when. There were some guys working on the house (built in 1751) and I walk up, give them the detector talk (won't harm the property, etc). Turns out it's the historical society headquarters and one of the guys is with the organization and he's fired up about what I might find and says have at it. I start looking and not having much luck, then get a good signal and dig my first 2 cent piece, good shape with 1864 date clearly visible. Here's link to one since the kids have the camera somewhere (those who have teenagers will understand). Will try to photo mine later. I spent two hours there and still have some searching to do.

Then I find an axe head, what looks like a flag holder and a cone shaped thing, couldn't figure it out, but the guy was happy to get these things to display. Then got a good signal and an 1891 V nickel, again, in good shape. Here's another link. Mine looks nothing like this good.

He shows me around the house and there's this really cool old Rev War looking rifle he said came with the house and he says he thinks it's French. It has the word "Gourgan" or "Gourgon" or something close with the letters "SE" of "5E" above "Gourgon" and to the left of it. Above the SE is a lion or some kind of little design. Anything you can tell me, I'd appreciate, as I told him I'd look into it and let him know. It still has a leather sheath over the bayonet, but very worn and cracked and a hole in the top of the sheath.
