My first, my oldest coin so far and a thrill to dig...especially for a mostly jewelry hunter like me.
Our club treasurer got us into an historical estate for a 2 hour hunt and I wanted to make it count.
It went well.

That's a beauty! Can you imagine what else is there?

The Brigham-Waggoner Estate in independence Mo.
Lots of people had bad experiences with clubs but I never have with mine...MWAS.org

Totally historical and watched over by the park people like hawks...nobody ever hunted here before, probably nobody will get a chance to hunt it again.
Short hunt, not many members found coins except one...a wrecked large cent with no date.
Mine is prettier.

Unbelievable, compared to my shield nickel i found today- all I could see is 5 and rays must be ground minerals-- some v nickels posted are still "silver" ??? What ???

Awesome, thats in great condition....:occasion14:

Thanks all!

A rare older coin find for me.
I really did plan on aiming for older coin targets and finding different kinds of sites to hunt this year, kinda jealous reading all the posts from the guys that consistently find all those great old coins.
Even though there are many sites and even many public parks that would be great for doing this and much history around here with soil that is so good it permits us to find them, the jewelry hunting and finds have been so stellar for me since the start of the year that I still just concentrate on that for the most part.
Next year for sure...I promise!

What a great hobby.
So many different facets and types of targets to aim for that everyone can be happy hunting their favorites.

Awful nice being a little successful when stepping out of your comfort zone once in awhile, too.

Way, way back when I started this hobby I found a few VERY nicely conditioned coins. (They're pictured in the "My Best Finds Forum", you can look them up.) One was a two cent piece too. But, I learned over the years just how fortunate I was to find any in such condition.

That is a beautiful coin! Take care of it and you'll always be able to relive that day.

A coin guy on our club's forum website just clued me in that this is the first coin where "In God We Trust" was used.
The "WE" is usually the first to fade out because it sits so high, but mine seems sharp as all the other details and lines seem to be.
There is a bit of dirt covering the E in We but it is there.

This is the fancy 5 variety with a little upturned tip on the top, no hint of this 5 over a 4 which I guess would be very rare.

You mentioned not a lot of other coins were found, but what types of things WERE found on this site?

An old pocket knife, some unknown odds and ends, some iron.
I found most of a large horseshoe and maybe part of an oxen shoe also a very old sparkplug.
Nothing real great but there was a lot of dirt moved around on this property we suspect.

SWEET 2-cent!!! :occasion14:
What a beauty.
