Did some door knockin' today. Showed my daughter a lesson in rejection and success. We were shut down once, but got a yes the second time. We were welcomed warmly by the owner and he said he detected the property himself previously but he gave me a chance.

15 minutes in at 4" I found an 1832 LC. 20 minutes in the owner had to run out and cut the hunt short. He seemed to do a complete 180, maybe because he didn't realize I'd be digging (?)

Either way, my girl thought the LC was kind of cool but was more interested in seeing the rest of Chicken Run on Netflix when we got home. I'd like to think that deep down, somewhere, a lesson and memory was planted in that noggin'. When I told her the coin was 182 years older than her she was like "oh, that's interesting papa" [unimpressed]

Happy hunting fellas

Great find bud. I'm thinking the owner saw you pull s coin and decided maybe he should try it again cause he missed some good stuff. Prob wasn't happy that you found something he didn't. How'd you leave it with him? I'll stick to my deep woods sites with no risk of anyone changing their minds mid hunt. I know it's not possible for most of you and I feel blessed to live in a place much less populated

Well that owner didn't hit it with a ctx I can assure you that. I think it's really cool you had your daughter with you, interested or not, that makes for some great memories, and 187 year old copper just adds to the sweetness, nice job

Congrats!

That's good insight I didn't think of about the owners mood swing. I've been scratching my head all day, which gave my arse a nice break. He's probably going to recheck the property with his HFT detector.

Yeah I'm guessing he was hoping you would fail like him and when he saw you pull a keeper he got upset. Who knows man. People are just so moody

People are moody: Especially you in the winter

He asked me three times if I found anything else, so he had trust issues too. I need a nice empty 1600's site. George seems to think those photos I sent you are just that..............

Yeah that sucks, glad I hunt the woods. Only the ghosts sometimes get irritated I'm there:tongue3:

Too bad you don't carry a gold coin you could have flipped as you walked away.

I will send them to a good friend on here that knows everything about 1600s sites. I'll get back to you. I think George has lost his mind lol

Scrappy I keep seeing your posts from nearby NJ and you keep coming up with my kind of stuff. I might have to start following you around 8-) Nice going on the LC.

Haha anytime bud. I get lucky once in a while so it's a crapshoot. The problem is real estate around me is expensive (high maintenance owners) yards are groomed (filled and 'scaped), and original estates are subdivided into neighborhoods (lost forever)

He probably bought a detector and gave up after 1 day. Some people don't want to learn. They want that easy money, treasure, gold.

True. When I started talking to him, he was sure there was nothin at the house. Then I suggested checking the side yard and I could see on his face that he had never thought of that.

After digesting the situation and getting insight from you guys I'm pretty sure he wanted "dibs" on the side yard and changed his mind.

It is absolutely riddled with iron everywhere so I hope he has one hell of a detector. I'm talking every inch of the yard was grunting!

It won't matter he won't follow through with looking. He will get tired of all the iron, thus the reason he has a detector and doesn't use it.

It sounds like a very fun hunt father-daughter... Well, at least until the part when you got kicked out. The large cent is in very great shape for it's age, most are way worse.

Same here, 100% agree. Woods hunting is my favorite, "Just trees and Treasure" as I have told people before. On a slightly related topic, Those ghosts in the woods hate me though, I have had the little on/off volume knob on my T2 get turned all the way down and off when it was all the way up last time I checked, that has happened more than once in the same area. Not sure how it happened but when in doubt go with paranormal... Creepy:icon_scratch:

Each type of but has it's drawbacks. I've been around spooky ghosts on sites in the woods , too...

True story here. I found this cellar hole out in the woods. I had a huge hit near where the chimney was. After digging through about a foot and a half, I found my cartridge box plate. I turn around , walk away from the cellar and head towards the stone wall nearby . I figured I'd check around it. I get close to the wall and 2 stones at the top just fall off, maybe 5 feet from me. No wind or any reason for that to happen. It scared the crap out of me , so yeah I'm a believer that there could be something out there watching me. Now when I'm by myself and here rustling of the leaves of cracking branches I get the chills
