It's a 1st Century Roman Dagger Guard, or Quillon as they are known....Great Find :icon_thumright:

Cool find! Never thought it could be roman. Very very nice!

Geat finds , from across the "pond" I see something new every day ....THANK YOU

Awesome finds, congrats!

Well, I'm glad to see my initial thought was correct - that it was a hand guard to a knife of some sort - had NO CLUE it was Roman as I incorrectly figured it was found here in the States. Very cool and interesting find!

Hi Garryson, congratulations on your roman guard! Was looking at very similar Roman Guards a few hours before you posted yours. They look awesome....so sad that only few come out in one piece. bye GA

Sorry to contradict the guys suggesting roman but the recurved quillon was very popular in the 16th and 17th centuries as well and I suspect your quillon may be from this period.
A sword handle with a similar quillon was found on the Queen Anne's revenge (Blackbeard's flagship).

Cool, looks like a deer on it.

Yes...a running animal of some sort, perhaps a Deer, running animals were used in a wide range of Roman items, especialy on daggers/knifes and brooches.
